Our Philosophy

It is my philosophy that students learn their best when they feel welcomed, safe, and comfortable within their classroom. By creating a warm classroom environment, students at all learning levels and abilities know that they are walking into a safe place to learn, grow, and discover positive challenges to make them strong and independent learners.

About Maria

Hello! I'm Maria Wentworth, founder of Beyond the Classroom. I am a Massachusetts-licensed educator for grades 1–6 with a passion for helping children build confidence, develop strong academic skills, and discover a love of learning.

My educational background includes a Master's Degree in Elementary Education, a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and Language Arts, and an Associate's Degree in Science. Throughout my career, I have worked with students of diverse learning styles, abilities, and backgrounds, and I believe every child has the potential to succeed when given the right support and encouragement.

At Beyond the Classroom, I use a fun, engaging, and rigorous multisensory approach to learning. Because every child learns differently, I tailor instruction to meet each student's unique needs, strengths, and interests. My goal is to create a positive learning environment where students feel comfortable taking risks, asking questions, and celebrating their progress.

As a mother of two energetic eleven-year-old boys, I understand firsthand the joys and challenges of supporting children both academically and emotionally. When I'm not teaching, I love spending time with my family, exploring new adventures, and making memories together.

I am a strong believer in the power of "YES!"—yes, every child can learn, yes, every child can grow, and yes, every child can achieve success with the right tools, guidance, and encouragement.

I look forward to helping your child thrive Beyond the Classroom.

Parent of 5th Grade Student:

“My 11 year old daughter has been working with Maria for almost four years.   Maria has been a wonderful support for us.  I send her weekly updates about what my daughter is working on in school and she tailors her tutoring to address those areas.   The extra help has really paid off in better grades and increased confidence in school.   I recommend Beyond the Classroom to any parent whose child needs some extra help.”

Parent of 1st Grade Student:

“My son started seeing Maria once a week about 5 months ago and he immediately felt comfortable with her from the first session.  My son enjoys going and looks forward to his sessions each week. Maria has the ability to make learning fun and interactive while tailoring the sessions to his specific needs.  In the 5 months, we have noticed a significant improvement in his reading skills and overall confidence.  We are so glad we decided to seek out extra support and would recommend Maria’s services to any parent looking for extra education support for their child.”

Parent of 5th Grade Student:

“Beyond the Classroom has been extremely helpful for my daughter. She started going to Maria in second grade and is now in fifth. Maria has given my daughter strategies different than her classroom teacher that have been helpful to her in math and writing. My daughter loves going to her, and is happy when she leaves with all her homework done!”
